I‘m happy to announce that I can now finally share with you the perfume secret I’ve been keeping for more than half a year – the new fragrance from HFC Paris called Dancing Queen, created by the perfumer Vincent Ricord who works at CPL Aromas. It’s been a real challenge to keep quiet about this splendid fruity-floral burst of fragrant happiness since the perfume’s launch event in Cannes in 2021.
When something is this good, the instinct is to tell the world about it. Luckily, now I can, as the fragrance has been officially released to the public.
Dancing Queen is a fruity-floral embodiment of the swirl of emotions that I strongly associate with nature’s spring rebirth and lavish summer bloom.

It’s juicy, explosive, positive and energetic. The most recognizable dancer is blackcurrant that is at the same time sweet, slightly sour, berry-jam-like and cool with shady dark green foliage. Its precious nectar falls onto a bouquet of roses (underscores the sweet jam-like character of the fruity part), jasmine (brings sunny clarity and freshness) and peony (provides a gentle, soft touch). The woody base is unobtrusive and doesn’t draw attention, but its presence is helping the perfume’s impressive sillage and longevity. Finally, everything is elevated by the modern musks.
All this energy and colorful intensity does not weigh down the fragrance in the slightest, Dancing Queen is swirling without touching the ground. Vincent Ricord has found a wonderful balance between the sensations of bright, vivid colors and the feeling of unburdened lightness that this fragrance conveys. The name Dancing Queen really perfectly fits the composition, as it is dynamic and oh so pretty!

HFC (stands for Haute Fragrance Company) are all about bringing together today’s fashion, scent and visual art. Their signature round bottles carry images from some of the world’s most famous contemporary illustrators. A very clever approach, since it activates my collector gene – each bottle is an eye candy, and they look amazing together.
Dancing Queen is no exception. This time HFC has collaborated with Katie Rogers, an illustrator who lives in New Mexico and whose work can be seen on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar and in numerous projects for brands like Cartier, Apple or Christian Louboutin. Katie’s Dancing Queen in shades of blue and turquoise with golden sparks reminds me of Degas’ ballerinas. Both are caught in movement and have a dreamy quality to them.

So if the name of the perfume makes you think of Abba’s song and the illustration of classical ballet, what dance does our Queen perform, judging by the scent? I’d say it’s a fusion of waltz and disco. Waltz provides the flow and long full skirts. In this case a full skirt is a must, because there is no better way to enjoy the swirling, than to feel the layers of tulle and silk follow your movements through the air – which is only possible in a full skirt (sorry, guys, I hope one day fashion conventions will let you fully experience it too). And disco adds vibrancy with a powerful drive, because the scent definitely has intensity to it that sets it apart from many other rather fleeting and unstable fruity-floral compositions.
If you enjoy cheerful, juicy and bright fragrances with notes of fruits and flowers, Dancing Queen is a safe blind-buying candidate. If you are one of the blackcurrant aficionados and collectors (and I know that this aromatic berry has its own loyal fan club among perfume lovers), then it’s a must-try – it might become your new favorite scent.

Concluding this review, I have to say that Dancing Queen has been one of my most worn fragrances since I got the bottle last fall, because it makes me feel pretty. And how the world sees you depends on how you feel inside. So here we go, Yana’s best beauty advice – wear fragrances that make you feel irresistible! Give Dancing Queen a try, it’s a winner.
Where can you try and buy it? HFC’s official website and web shop are an obvious destination regardless of your location. Luckily, the brand is also rapidly building an international retail network. A trusted German store that carries HFC and also ships internationally is beauty-concept-shop.de. And when I say trusted, I mean it – I’ve even teamed up with them to give you a sweet 5% discount and 5 samples of your choice with the code YANA5 if you enter it at checkout. If you use YANA5 to purchase an HFC fragrance, you will even get an exclusive 7,5 ml travel size and two samples of the brand! (I’m not after commission and don’t get any, it’s just a service and gift for my readers – I’m happy to make you happy). Another wonderful European perfumery worth visiting where you can try HFC Paris fragrances is Introspection Perfumery in Luxembourg.
What do you think of the idea to translate dance into scent? Is it possible? And have you tried anything from HFC yet?
