Creed is a perfume house full of contradictions. Originally a British tailoring business (founded in 1760) and now a French fragrance company. Their Aventus became a worldwide hit, earning the company a fortune and inspiring hundreds of copies. Based on this success alone, the brand has earned itself a place on the perfume Olympus. And yet, the house engages in a lot of questionable storytelling. Inventing a long fragrance history that cannot be substantiated. Linking its perfumes to dead celebrities who probably never smelled them. Hiding the names of the real perfumers behind their formulas and insisting on Creed family members authorship. All of that seems utterly unnecessary, because their scents are second to none and don’t need any fake mythology to stand out.
